Anatomy is the study of the structure of the body.
The word "anatomy" comes from Greek and means—like the Latin word "dissectio"—to cut open.
A distinction is made here between anatomy that can be studied with the naked eye (macroscopic anatomy) and
anatomy that requires a microscope to study (microscopic anatomy). Microscopic
anatomy includes:
Cytology – the study of the structure and function of cells.
Histology – the study of the structure and function of tissues.
