Types of traumatic injuries

Bone injuries / fractures / hairline fractures

Symptoms: Pain, swelling, misalignment, etc.
Treatment: Emergency care, rest, elevation, covering open wounds, splinting. Followed by rehabilitation exercises.

Ligament injury / partial / complete

Partial tear – a portion of the ligament is torn.
Complete tear – the entire ligament is torn.
Symptoms: Pain, swelling, instability.
Common sites: Joints of the extremities , particularly the knee, ankle, and finger joints.
Treatment: PRICE. Followed by rehabilitation exercises and taping.

Dislocation

Partial dislocation – partially out of joint.
Total – completely out of joint.
Symptoms: Pain , swelling, misalignment.
Common locations: Shoulder , elbow, hip and knee joints, ankle, patella.
Treatment: PRICE , followed by rehabilitation exercises, taping.

Muscle injury

Partial tear – muscle partially torn.
Complete tear – muscle completely torn.
Symptoms: Pain , palpable gap, bleeding, difficulty contracting the muscle.
Common sites: Thigh muscles, supraspinatus, calves.
Treatment: PRICE, followed by rehabilitation exercises and stretching.

Sensory impairments

Partial rupture – the tendon is partially torn.
Complete rupture – the tendon is completely torn.
Symptoms: Pain during movement and weight-bearing; possibly a palpable gap, swelling, redness, and limited range of motion.
Common sites: Achilles tendon , patellar tendon, supraspinatus tendon, biceps longus (long head of the biceps muscle).
