The gallbladder and pancreas

Bile from the liver can only enter the duodenum when there is food to be broken down. The newly produced bile is therefore temporarily stored in the gallbladder until it is needed.

The pancreas produces pancreatic juice, which contains enzymes and hormones. The pancreatic juice flows through a duct that, together with the bile duct from the liver and gallbladder, empties into the part of the small intestine called the duodenum.
