BMI stands for Body Mass Index and is a measure of body composition. BMI is calculated by taking a person's weight and dividing it by their height squared. For example, if your height is 1.82 m, the calculation is (1.82×1.82) = 3.3124. If your weight is 70.5 kg, your BMI is (70.5/3.3124). This gives the equation: BMI = M/(HxH).
M = body weight in kilograms
H = height in meters

The higher the number, the greater the excess weight. Just like caliper measurements, BMI only provides an indication of fat mass, as factors such as body type, body shape, etc. are of great importance. BMI is only a guide and should not be applied to older people, pregnant women, or very muscular athletes, as the results will not correspond to reality.
